Premiering this week:

Miss Representation 8 min. Trailer 8/23/11 from Miss Representation on Vimeo.

Someone brought this trailer to my attention this week. It reminded me of the statistics that Julie shared with us on the first day of class, and it ties in nicely with some of our blog conversations so far so I decided to share it with y'all. It seems a bit simplistic after all of the theory we've been reading, but I guess that's part and parcel of the "trickle down" theory of intellectual ideas. I do, however, think it's a shame that the Oprah Winfrey Network acquired its broadcast rights since that will probably severely limit the number of viewers. 2. Wow. You're right it's incredibly interesting to see how this information (finally) gets presented in a more 'mainstream media'. I think this video also makes a serious point about the general change in our core values as Americans and that is that education will always be below a slew of other priorities. The high school perspective was uplifting, however in the end disheartening to know that in the end those students are the minority. Sidenote: the majority of those women speakers were in the entertainment business, so one can either hope that they will take advantage of the media that we all subscribe to in order to make a serious contribution to the 'feminist movement', or they unfortunately already adhere to the binaries we've learned about and are only perpetuating the cycle of dominance....
